Welcome to the Charity Commission for England and Wales Developer's Hub
The Charity Commission API lets you search for and retrieve the latest information on charities in England and Wales. The API contains operations for retrieving data that is currently displayed on the Register of Charities.
The API is currently in beta and we are keen to receive feedback from users on all aspects of it. If you would like to supply feedback you can do so through this feedback form.
Getting Started
To begin using the API you first need to subscribe to a product. At present only a single product is available - Register of Charities - which contains public data on charities in England and Wales. Use the 'Products' link above to navigate to the products page. Click the name of the product to be taken to the subscription page. Here you will be able to see the APIs available as part of that product and subscribe. Simply enter a name for your subscription into the box and click subscribe. Once subscribed you will be taken to your profile page where you can find details of the subscription and the API keys.
Navigating the Portal
Use the menu at the top of the screen to navigate through the developer's hub.
Home - This page contains links to documents to help you understand the data available in the API.
Terms - This page displays the terms of service and the privacy notice.
Products - This page lists the products that are available. Select the name of the product to see the APIs it contains and to subscribe to the product.
APIs - This page shows the APIs that are available. Select the name of the API to view its details. The details page lists all the operations available in the API, as well as details of the request and request parameters. Here you can also download the API definition and, if you have already subscribed, test the API. To test the API, click 'Try It' to expand an interactive window where you can select your key and enter any required parameters. Send the request and view the response in the window.
Reports - The reports page allows you to view detailed metrics on your usage of the products, APIs, and operations over varying periods of time.
Profile - The profile page is where you will find your account and subscription details. You can view and regenerate your API keys here, as well as rename or cancel your subscriptions. You can also change your name and password or close your account from this page.
